I got this knife a few weeks ago. After playing with for a few hours I made a bow-drill set and started a friction fire. That was pretty much what I wanted it for. It split wood just fine, carved a round drill just fine, and chopped down a branch 3 inches thick within a minute. So, if you wanted something that could do some small work, this would do just fine, right out of the box.
There are a few critical points that I would like to say about this knife. It is Chinese made, though. It has a statement on it that reads “Handcrafted in China. Designed in USA”. So, I don’t know how much quality was put in producing it. But, so far so good. There is a black coating of some kind that is a little abrasive. This chipped off while I was using a baton to the awl of the knife. The coating shouldn’t matter and I expect it to chip away the more I continue to use this knife. The case that comes along with it is very low quality. I am sure it will come apart after a month in the woods. Its flimsy and unreliable. I suggest buying a different case for this, or make your own. Now for the most harsh thing that I have to say about this knife – You will have a hard time sharpening. It isn’t single-edged along its cutting edge. You will have to sharpen it for a long time, trying to make a perfect V. After sharpening it for a few minutes, I can tell that I will not like doing this on a daily basis. I still can’t seem to shave hairs or cut a strip of paper with it.

for $13 you couldn’t really go wrong with this knife if you tried. It has a sturdy feel to it, came sharp, and the sheath looked like it could hold up to a reasonable amount of use. Good buy, and Great gift

I got this knife for $16 at a gun show. It is a good knife, it wasn’t very sharp when I got it, so i sharpened it with my hand sharpener. The only thing that I don’t like is that when i sharpened it some of the black scraped away. But i would still recommend it.
