Are Manual Drip Coffee Makers Dead

Article by Barry Wyse

Drip coffee brewers continue to be the most well-liked version of coffee brewer found in most households these days. Do you know that drip coffee brewers are available in two differing types, specifically the automatic version along with the manual version. Both types have their pros and cons, however in this post we will look into the characteristics of the manual drip coffee maker.

Manual drip coffee makers commonly are available in single cup to 12 cup kinds and in essence offer you similar results as an automatic drip coffee brewer. Lots of people believe they get a better tasting cup of coffee when they’ve got the ability to pour the water themselves and choose from a number of filters and filter holders. A benefit of manual drip coffee machines is that they don’t use electricity and can be utilized wherever you happen to go. This makes them an excellent pick for camping out. You are able to boil water over a fire or portable stove for your coffee.

The main components of manual drip coffee brewers are the pot or cup, a filter, plus a filter holder. There are more complicated kinds available but for many of them, that’s all you’ll require. At the outset you place your pot or cup on a counter, place the filter holder on top, add a filter and fill it with ground coffee. You boil water on the stove-top and pour it into the filter. It is pretty easy but if you do not understand what you are doing or have the correct pot to boil water within, there’s a potential to get burnt. Having a teapot or special pot that includes a place for pouring is the very best option to go as a saucepan isn’t created for pouring water out.

Every manual drip coffee maker features a special filter and filter holder. The filters may be permanent metal ones or your plain disposable paper ones. Many people prefer the metal filters because they can be employed many times and supply the same water flow each time. Paper filters, though cheaper, can end up costing more in the long term and each brand may let water flow somewhat differently. The filter holders come in hundreds of varieties but you always receive one with your manual drip coffee maker. If you purchase a new one, you run the chance of overflow. Filter holders are usually porcelain, plastic, metal, or glass and come in many different sizes. The manual drip coffee brewer pot or cup is an important thing to think about. Do you need to make a single cup or ten cups? A single cup version will take up practically no counter room plus is a superb choice for those who live alone or in a really small place. The ten to twelve cup versions are wonderful for homes that drink a great deal of coffee or for big camping out trips. They are not as large as an electrical coffee maker and can be taken apart for simple cleansing and hauling.

The most important part of any coffee maker is the type of coffee you use. Expensive coffee that is freshly ground will taste much better than coffee from a discount store. Sample different types of coffee and judge what kind you like the best.

Clearly the selection between having an automatic or a manual drip coffee maker is essentially based on your own personal coffee drinking desires and preferences. Depending on the situation, one kind might be better than the other, which helps to clarify why many hard core coffee drinkers often own one of each kind. It is important to perform a little research prior to just dashing out and buying the first manual or automatic drip coffee maker that you just see on the shelf. While having good quality coffee is important, let us not fail to remember that role performed in brewing that delectable cup of hot steaming coffee by your coffee maker and plan your purchase for that reason. As with most consumer items intended for purchase, there is the “good” the “bad” and the down right “ugly”.

coffee pots for camping question by October Bride: What type of things to put on a registry IF?
We already have friends/family/co-workers bugging us for a registry. We have lived together for a few years. & own a house together.
What the heck do we put on the registry?

We have things: coffee pot, expresso bought a yard sale, band new washer & dryer I worked crazy over time for, new couch he worked crazy over time for. new stove, dishwasher & micro wave that came with the house, a crappy fridge that came with the house but it works. A blender bought a yard sell. We have all our camping stuff (for all the more we camp) Towels, Walmart $ 1 silverware but it does the job, house phones, computer.
Seems like everyone we seen on the registry sights are more then we feel people should spend on us.
Having a destination wedding. I already thought about the honeymoon registry but it doesn’t apply!

Set up a honeymoon registry. If you are going somewhere tropical then register for beach towels, sun screen, entertainment, swimwear, etc. Honeymoon registries are getting very popular. It doesn’t even have to be for actual items, you could set up a honeymoon fund registry so people can just pitch in money to help pay for it. That way your honeymoon is a gift from everyone.

I bought this item – the Coleman Propane Coffeemaker with the Steel Carafe – as my “new” camping item of the year. And boy was it a hit – not only with the members of our camping party, but other campers passing by our campsite. It is FAST, it is easy to set up and use, it makes great coffee – just like home, and the stainless steel carafe kept the coffee warm for quite a while after I turned the temperature off. (Although I did turn the temperature guage to LOW after the brewing had stopped so our late riser sleepy campers were sure to have hot coffee.) We made quite a few pots of coffee in the 4 mornings during our trip on a single cylinder of propane. I know some our fellow campers will be buying one of these. It is a great addition to our camping gear.

Pros: pretty compact; sludge-free coffee; easy set-up; easy clean-up
    Cons: no thermal carafe

I bought this a week before setting off for a week in Yosemite. Next to a tent and sleeping bag, this was the best piece of gear in our campsite. This propane-powered coffeemaker makes 10 cups of sludge-free coffee in about 15-20 minutes. I used the standard 8-12 cup paper basket filter and had no overflow issues using 8 scoops of coffee.

One thing I learned right away was to fill the carafe to just below the rim, pour as much into the reservoir as possible, and pour the rest into a cup before brewing. Then, as space permits in the reservoir, add the remaining water to get a nearly full carafe of coffee. If you don’t follow these steps, you’ll end up with about 2/3′s of a carafe. Also, if the temps are even mildly cool, the coffee will get cold quickly due to a lack of a thermal carafe. The get-around to that is to bring along a separate thermal carafe. Maybe Coleman will fix that small issue in the near future (hint, hint).

Overall, the Coleman Portable Propane Coffeemaker w/ stainless carafe is a must-have piece of camping gear for any javahead. It’s reasonably compact so it fit easily into the bear-proof food locker and makes a nice cup of joe. Highly recommended!

For our type of camping trips (primitive, no electricity)this coffeemaker is almost perfect .Lights easily and seems to make a pot much quicker than the 15 minutes stated in the ad I read. The stainless steel did discolor the first time it was used(around the burner area only). It is quite bulky so we put it in a plastic tote with our backup grill.Overall after an 8 day camping trip we are very pleased with this coffeemaker.
